The Cossack glory obelisk

During celebrating of the 18th anniversary of independence of Ukraine on the right coast of the small river Sluch in the Victory Park there was solemnly opened the Cossack glory obelisk. The opening ceremony coincided with the 360th anniversary of the Ukrainian state declaration “Land of the Zaporozhye force” and the 360th anniversary of creation of the Registered Cossacks Zvyagelsky regiment. The Novograd-Volynsk Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Registered Cossacks” was an initiator of the opening ceremony organization.

There is a symbolical Cossack cross and the plate with an inscription on a granite stone: “Wanderer! Honour Cossack glory of the Zvyagelsky regiment, it is immortal. 1649 - 2009. It is from society and Registered Cossacks”.

There were representatives of the city and regional power, deputies, representatives of the Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Registered Cossacks”, the city community.

After the solemn part the head of the city Nicolay Borovets thanked for an active public position of all who took part in support of a memorable sign. Head of the Zhitomir Regional Cossack Organization of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks, the history teacher of school №4 Alexander Drozdyuk told about historical details of that time.

He remembered the motto of the modern Registered Cossacks: “To the successful state and well-being of the people of Ukraine through spirituality and patriotism of each person”. This public organization takes care of patriotic education, traditions and the historical truth. Hetman’s representative of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks Valery Tsimbalyuk, chairman of the Novograd-Volynsk DSА Nicolay Ivanyuk, chairman of the Novograd-Volynsk Regional Council Victor Goncharuk, and deputy of the city council Gennady Tsaplin spoke on this solemn meeting.

Work concerning obelisk making and establishment lasted two weeks; and it will be continued. The memorable sign and the territory are made on means of community and sponsors who on the solemn opening received the Cossack awards. The main architect of the city B. Podsadny designed the memorable sign. The cross and the plate were made by the deputy of the city council, the private businessman R. Ebergenov. Also they thanked Yu. Taran, O. Zhurbenko, V. Barannikov, O. Gumenyuk and the Novograd-Volynsk military garrison for help.

Head of the city Nicolay Borovets and head of the Zhitomir Regional Cossack Organization of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks, the history teacher of school №4, the regional specialist of local history Colonel Alexander Drozdyuk received the Cossack cross of the Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Registered Cossacks”.

The consecration ritual and acceptance of the oath by Cossacks and Bereguinias took place after blessing of the “Cossack Cross”.
