"Spiritual Landing Place" : to the Memory of John Paul II
One can find historical parallels in the next coming broadcast of the Donetsk regional radio "Spiritual Landing Place", which was heard on the first days of July, this year.
Its initiator is the leader of theAll-Ukrainian Party of Spirituality and Patriotism, hetman of the Ukrainian Registered Cossacks , Ph. Doctor of Theology, Corresponding Member Of the NAS of Ukraine, rector of the Donetsk State Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Full professor Anatoli Ivanovich Shevchenko. He commented on importance of the of the visit of the Pope of Rome John Paul II to Ukraine on June 23d 2001. Anatoli Shevchenko said the visit had been a great honor for the Ukrainian people. He underlined a uniting role of this visit for all the religious confessions.
Was the Pope's mission successful? The question is still open, because there are a lot of religious servants, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church ( Moscow Patriarchy) who were against the Pope's visit to Ukraine.
Anatoli Shevchenko recalled with warm two meetings which had taken place in Rome, in Vatican. The Pope received heartily the delegation from Ukrainian Registered Cossacks and devoted more time to the delegation than the protocol permitted. The Pope presented the Ukrainian guests golden crosses, thus underlining his favor towards the natives of Ukraine, his mother's motherland.
As Anatoli Shevchenko pointed out, it was symbolic that the broadcast was transmitted on the eve of the holiday of Peter and Paul. Apostle Paul, the same as John Paul II, who inherited his traditions, brought people light and recovery of their sight, but he was slaughtered with s sward in Rome, in the city, where many centuries later, John Paul II was badly wounded by a Turkish Agdzhy. And still, during all his life, fighting against this hard disease, he brought light and love to his laity, to all the humanity.
